It's been estimated that fully half of American adults know they
need to watch what they eat and exercise regularly, but fewer
than 15% do so on a consistent basis...
At the start of a New Year, people are more likely to evaluate
their diet, and resolve to turn over a 'new leaf' about getting
more physical exercise. Here's a starting point for becoming and
staying healthier in 2003. Answer each question/statement with
Yes or No:
1. I eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily.
2. I eat at least 6 servings of bread, rice, pasta, cereal daily.
3. I drink reduced-fat or fat-free milk and yogurt.
4. I rarely eat high-fat meats (bacon, hot dogs, sausage, steak).
5. I limit high-fat baked goods (pie, cake, donuts, cookies).
6. I rarely add butter or other fat to recipes or at table.
7. I eat fried foods only twice per week.
8. I try to maintain a healthy weight.
9. I am physically active 30 minutes a day almost every day.
10. I take the stairs instead of the elevator.
11. I try to spend free time being active, instead of watching
TV or working at my computer for hours.
12. I rarely drink alcohol.
