Did you know you that you could lose weight doing opposite things?
That’s true. You can lose weight on a high carbohydrate,
low fat diet. An example of such a diet is The Rice Diet that
was developed at Duke University. You can also lose weight on
a high fat, low carbohydrate diet. An example of this is The Atkins

When it comes to exercise, you can lose weight with vigorous
exercise, but so too with just walking. In fact, there are more
ways to lose weight than you can count and new ones are popping
up every day. What’s going on here?
The one thing that is a fact is that to lose weight, you have
to take in less calories than you spend, or you have to spend
more calories than you take in. Any combination of diet and exercise
that gets you there will lead to weight loss.
If everybody knows that diet and exercise are the ways to lose
weight and there are a million weight loss programs, how come
so many people are not succeeding? In fact, 9 out of every 10
individuals who lose weight gain it back and then some.
I had been trying to help some friends and family members lose
weight only to run into the well-known problem of the individual
giving up and gaining the weight back.
In my frustration and almost embarrassment, I had to find out
why they were not succeeding and what it takes to succeed. The
answer was a bit surprising and almost too simple.
For an individual to succeed, they have to, in essence, learn
how to modify their behavior to develop new habits. As simple
as this sounds, unless you can develop behavior modification skills,
you cannot do the things to lose weight even if you know what
to do.
Think of losing weight as setting a goal, which is what it is.
To reach any goal, you have to know where you want to go, know
how to get there and then be able to do the things that will get
you there in a consistent manner.
