The 12 Days Grapefruit diet

This diet is based on the premise that grapefruit has fat burning properties. The grapefruit diet lasts 12 days, but if an individual wants to continue they must take at least two days off before doing so. While there is no hard evidence that grapefruit burns fat, the diet does have some success stories.

Most meals are accompanied by grapefruit. It is also recommended that participants drink about 8 glasses of water per day. This regimented diet does not allow most complex carbs, and doesn't allow for snacking in between meals. However, the consumption of most vegetables is encouraged and you are allowed to prepare them in generous amounts of butter.

Items you can eat: Red onions, Bell peppers, Radishes, Broccoli, Cucumbers, Carrots, Leaf spinach, Cabbage,Tomatoes, Green beans, Lettuce, Chili (no beans), Mayonnaise, Any cheese, Hot dogs fruit, Coleslaw, Reg salad dressing, Green vegetables, Dried nuts

Items you can not eat : White onions, Potates, Celery, Peas, Cereal, Corn, Starchy, vegetables, Potato chips, Peanut butter, Pasta, Corn chips, Jam, Sweet pickles, Pretzels, Fruit, Low fat / diet salad dressing

You can add the following to your foods: herbs, salt, pepper, lemon, vinegar, Worcestershire, soy sauce, mustard & ketchup.

Stay on the diet 12 days, then stop the diet for 2 days and repeat

It's pretty much agreed by the Grapefruit Diet gurus that most people who try the program for a week or two will probably lose somewhere between 12 and 20 pounds. The plus side to this diet is grapefruit is a great source of vitamin C and high in fiber.

While fad diets may initially offer rapid weight loss, the result is too often temporary, leaving the dieter defeated, angry and often with a few extra pounds just for good measure. The problem with fad diets is that they are just that fads. The key to long-term weight loss is adopting a healthy lifestyle for life.
