" My daily diet consisted of a bowl of cold
cereal for breakfast with 1 cup of fruit. I measured everything!
I was so surprised to find that my usual 'helpings' were much
too large. One cup isn't much more than a handful. I cut out all
daily snacks. Other than the skim milk that I put on my morning
cereal, I enjoyed diet drinks for my beverage choice. I abstained
totally from alcohol, which is very high in calories. I used 'fake'
butter and 'fake' sugar, too.
Lunch consisted of one sandwich and one bowl of Campbell's soup
(1 serving size) or a small lettuce and tomato salad with 1 Tablespoon
of dressing on the side. Generally, my sandwich was made with
1 slice of lean deli meat, lettuce, tomato and a bit of mustard.
I was never a mustard lover, but if I could drop 50 pounds, I'd
gladly give up my Mayo. Although pickles are very low in calories,
I opted against them due to the high sodium content. I was also
very aware of the sodium content in the deli meat and made my
selections very carefully. When I tired of deli meat, I roasted
a bit of chicken and sliced it into thin slices for my sandwich.
I opted not to eat red meat during my diet.
Dinners were my most difficult diet dilemma. I would come home
from work, very tired, and I longed to just chill out in front
of the television with my traditional bag of hot buttered popcorn.
I missed those comforting times a lot! I kept my dinners to one
slice of meat, 2 cups of steamed vegetables, one slice of bread
and one box of sugarfree gelatin for dessert. Sometimes, I think
it was the only thing that kept me going - that one box of gelatin
at the end of the day! It may seem like a lot, but it's only 40
calories for the entire box and it's really filling.
I lost about 12-15 pounds a month when I was dieting. I hit three
weight loss plateaus: one after I had lost 15 pounds, another
after I had lost 32 pounds, and another when I had lost 41 pounds.
I seemed to stay at the same weight for a week or more during
these plateaus. It was very depressing, and I felt like giving
up many times. But I stayed the course and when almost 4 months
had passed - I WAS AT MY WEIGHT GOAL!!! I HAD WON!!! "
